Grangemouth Golf Club
Grangemouth Golf Club History
Grangemouth Golf Club was first recorded in the Falkirk Herald on 17.5.1899 where “a number of locals met on Thursday night to consider the advisability of forming a Golf Club for Grangemouth. It was unanimously agreed that the initial steps be taken and a committee of four was appointed to make the necessary enquiries”.
Unfortunately, it looks to have taken around twenty years to come to fruition as the new Club was not instituted until 1909 with the Course opening ceremony taking place on the Saturday the 28th August 1909.
This initial home to the Club gave way for the building of the Central Scotland Aerodrome, the Club then moved to land situated on the flat land close to the current Sports Stadium until around the mid-fifties when the land was compulsory purchased by the Council and was used for a housing development with the promise of another 9-hole course at Polmonthill, so in 1973 our new home was opened.
The current Courses architect was none other than FW Hawtree. This must have been a major investment by the Council at the time as this Company is recognised as the oldest Golf Course Design Company in the business. There have been 3 generations of Hawtrees whose hands have touched and improved a multitude of top-class course layouts throughout the world for over 100 years including the Trump Course at Aberdeen no less, in fact the three Hawtrees are all recognised as being in the top 100 Golf Course Architects of all time in the world. This goes a long way to explaining the fantastic layout that we have come to love.
Grangemouth Golf Club has always been considered to be a friendly, welcoming Club with our roots firmly in the community we serve.
