History
Grangemouth Golf Club History
Grangemouth Golf Club was first recorded in the Falkirk Herald on 17.5.1899, where “a number of locals met on Thursday night to consider the advisability of forming a Golf Club for Grangemouth. It was unanimously agreed that the initial steps be taken, and a committee of four was appointed to make the necessary enquiries”.
Unfortunately, it looks to have taken around twenty years to come to fruition, as the new Club was not instituted until 1909, with the Course opening ceremony taking place on Saturday, August 28, 1909.
This initial home to the Club gave way for the building of the Central Scotland Aerodrome. The club then moved to land situated on the flat land close to the current sports stadium until around the mid-fifties, when the land was compulsorily purchased by the Council and was used for a housing development with the promise of another 9-hole course at Polmonthill, so in 1973, our new home was opened.
